Trochu Alberta and the First World War

Major Leon C. Eckenfelder, a founding father of the town of Trochu Alberta returned to fight for his home country of France in the First World War.

Xavier De Beaudrap accompanied a number of older Frenchmen from Trochu, to enlist in the French army in the First World War, but was rejected since he was born in Saskatchewan. He spent a few months with the French Legion, as pictured, before serving with the British Army for the remainder of the war. His job was shipping horses across the English Channel from Southampton to the front.
