A Special Visit from East York Collegiate Institute

The Juno Beach Centre was pleased to host 58 grade ten students from the East York Collegiate Institute for a special visit to see the From Vimy to Juno exhibit at the Queen’s Own Rifles Museum today. These young history enthusiasts were among the first school groups to experience our exciting new learning tools developed by Governor General Award winner Rachel Collishaw.

The students explored topics of remembrance and commemoration while learning about the Canadian experience during the First and the Second World Wars. They were asked to act as historical detectives and use the images, quotations, and statistics found throughout the exhibit to learn about what happened during these two key moments in Canadian history.

Based on the six Historical Thinking concepts, the lesson ultimately asks the important question: “How Will You Remember?” These educational tools are available throughout From Vimy to Juno’s National Tour in 2016/17 and were developed for Primary, Junior, and Intermediate/Senior levels.
